Academy Audition Information

NEW STUDENT AUDITIONS:  AUGUST 2010
A final round of auditions for new students will take place August 10 and August 26, from 4-7 p.m. in Thoresen Performance Center, 300 Green Bay Road, Winnetka, Illinois.

REQUIREMENTS
Students should be prepared to perform two contrasting selections that best demonstrate their technical and musical skills.

All applicants must audition in person at MIC unless they live more than 250 miles from the campus.  In such cases, a DVD may be submitted with prior permission.

Applicants must bring their own accompanist.

SENIOR PROGRAM
Minimum suggest repertoire, all instruments:
Students should be studying major literature for the instrument including Romantic concerti

Minimum suggest repertoire, violist in 9th grade:
Hindemith - Trauermusik (Music of Mourning)
Rebecca Clarke - Sonata
Walton Concerto - first movement                                                      

Minimum suggest repertoire, violinist in 8th grade:  
Bruch - Violin Concerto No.1 - all movements
Saint-Saens - Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso
Lalo - Symphonie Espagnole, first movement 

JUNIOR PROGRAM
Minimum suggest repertoire, all instruments:
Violin:  Mozart Concerto No. 3 in G major, or equivalent
Viola:  Telemann G Major Concerto, or equivalent
Cello:  Haydn C Major Concerto, J.C. Bach/Casadesus Concerto, Saint-Saens Concerto (1st mov), or equivalent
Bass: TBD
Piano:  Beethoven Concerto No. 2, Mozart K. 414, or equivalent
